The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Flowing Wells Unified School District co-designed these place-based STEM units for elementary grades. The K-5th grade units incorporate local phenomena, research from Museum scientists, and biodiversity data to enhance student engagement and support teachers teaching science. This partnership is an expansion of the Tucson Bee Collaborative research program, which has high school, college and community science components. This 3-year effort to write Sonoran Desert units for K-5th grade teachers resulted in free, open-source curriculum to support elementary teachers incorporating dynamic, hands-on, and state standards aligned science in their classrooms.
