By late June nearly all flowering has ceased and the trees and saguaros are ripening their fruits for seed dispersal as the summer rains arrive in July. Most other plants are in deep dormancy until the first rain. The saguaro is the only plant that bears moist fruit (the red blobs on the stem tips) during this season, and is a crucial food and water source for many desert animals.
