Thank you so much for your adoption of one of our winged wonders! Your donation allows us to provide the highest quality care to these incredible creatures. We take care of more than a dozen hummingbirds in our aviary every year, including the Anna’s hummingbird, Broad-billed hummingbird, Costa’s hummingbird, and Rufous hummingbird. The hummingbird family includes the world’s smallest birds with the fastest wingbeats! While there are over 300 species of hummingbirds, the majority of these are found in the tropics, and a relatively small handful of the total reaches the United States. Of this number, here in southern Arizona over a dozen can be spotted at different times of the year, especially following the monsoons!
So where does your money go?
On average, it costs us $430 a month to keep the hummingbirds healthy and well nourished. That’s around $100 a week! The plants that you see in the aviary? Those cost the Museum around $400 a month to maintain. This diverse botanical collection is necessary for perching, cover, breeding habitat and natural food plants.
Because of YOU, these hummingbirds are able to enjoy the finer things in life
