Ocotillo and relatives (Fouquieria spp.)

Ocotillo macho (Fouquieria macdougalii) is more evidently succulent than ocotillo (F. splendens). It flowers profusely in spring (upper left), and sparsely nearly year round. It is a major food source for both migrating and resident species of hummingbirds. |
