Ground Transportation (taxi fares are about $25).An U.S. or Canadian passport is needed to obtain the Mexican travel visa. The cost of the visa is included in airfares. Crossing the border on land, there is a $22.00 fee for a six-month visa. To import a car into Mexico, you will need the vehicle registration to obtain a free SONORA ONLY or a six-month federal permit for about $30.00. If you have a company car, you will need a notarized letter giving permission to take it into Mexico. You will need to purchase Mexican car insurance. If the border zone is extended to Empalme in early 2006 as planned, visas to travel on land to Hermosillo and Guaymas may not be necessary.
