Workshop Class
No Color, No Kidding - Martha Kemp, Instructor
From fuzzy to shiny to prickly to flawless continuous tone, this workshop will explore the medium of graphite through the use of a lead holder—not a conventional wood pencil or a mechanical pencil—and different grades of 2mm graphite to render on paper the details, texture and volume of botanical specimens from the museum's nursery. Start with exercises to help you become familiar with the handling qualities of the lead holder, then experiment with strokes and techniques that will enable you to create a lively portrait of your plant specimen. Through a combination of lecture, demonstration, individual instruction and detailed handouts, you'll learn ways to make images "pop" off the page. It's almost like sculpting on paper!
