Scanography & Digital Printmaking - Dr. Stephen Buchmann, Instructor

Get scanning and explore the macroscopic world around you. Use an art pre-press extreme resolution flatbed scanner (5600 dpi). Participants will collect, prepare then scan found objects in nature brought to class. Think thin (leaves, feathers, insect wings, fruit slices, fish scales, etc.). We will use a Creo flatbed scanner to create archival prints using Ultrachrome inks on a 17-inch wide Epson 3800 inkjet printer. Examine small objects using a Leica Z6 microscope. Experience hyperfocal imaging. Depth-of-field "slices" will be software-stitched into all-in-focus digital photographs for archiving or printing. You won't find this combination of equipment anywhere else in Arizona. Professional guidance by a renowned scientist, author and scanning expert will provide instruction on working with scanner-acquired images and ink jet printing. Tips on getting good images from any flatbed scanner will be presented during class. Instruction will take place at an in-town location and not at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
